    Default Fish Oil

I want to start taking fish oil. I keep reading about all it's health benefits and I want to give it a shot for 2 or 3 months and see if I notice any improvements.

Do any of you take this stuff and if so do you have any brand recommendations?

Mmmm Omega 3 fatty acids......I use the local health food store brand. Look for molecular distilled concentrated fish oil.

I used to take it...I beleive most the health benefits will be things you don't notice...and you don't have to buy a nice brand of it...

i get the big thing at sams club. i take 5grams a day. you are supposed to look for a certain amount of total dha and epa (it should be listed on the front of the bottle) depending on your level of activity, but i dont remember any of that math. when i was unable to afford it i noticed a slight stiffness in my joints after heavy squats and overhead presses that i wouldnt otherwise have, but the benefits are mostly longterm.

Yeah, I think the percentage is supposed to be at least 30. See what you just alluded to about the joints is my only hesitation. I used to take this green algae stuff that really did help in terms of stress and just general energy but once I stopped taking it I felt like someone had sapped half my life points for about a week.

The one benefit I had clearly noticed was the fish burps. I used to hate them but now I yearn for the fish burps.

this is the good/bad relationship i have with supplements.

i get great sleep with zma and 5-htp, but now i hate life without it. (i dont go without it though. because of the hating life thing)

99% of dietary supplements are bogus junk. id recommend these if your budget allows, ranked from most worth the money to the least:

    vitamin c

zma (especially if you are doing regular strength training and are older than 25)

    fish oil

vitamin b12 (i only get the sublingual dots, they absorb better supposedly)

    5-htp

    other things for various purposes:

cla and ala can help with the last bit of fat loss or if your in a rut/plateau.

GABA is a good one for when you are having more than average trouble sleeping/winding down at night. (get it in powder form, and take it sublingually as well)

theanine + caffeine is great for when you need to really focus (tests, job interviews, dates, etc)

outside of this your body can benefit most from eating foods that contain the things you may be supplementing (ie more red meat instead of creatine if you want to bulk up, more milk in the summer for the vitamin d, vegetables in their most natural state or barely cooked for everything else youre not getting. leave the skins on and eat the green parts too)

The other day I picked up a fish oil pill thinking it was an almond, it into it and omg. All in the mouth and all over the face. I felt so violated.
