Legendary Hip-Hop Artist in Coma

Guru, member of the legendary hip-hop group Gangstarr is reportedly in a coma as a result of a heart attack.

Born Keith Alam, the 43 year old rapper went into cardiac arrest sometime over the weekend and slipped into a coma.

As a half of Gangstarr, Guru was known for his distinctive raspy voice and intelligent lyrics. Together with partner DJ Premier, the group made a total of eight albums. His work on the hip-hop/jazz fusion Jazzmatazz was critically acclaimed and yeilded a number of tours and four albums. There are a number of reports stating a series of Jazzmatazz performances were scheduled.

The artist is scheduled to undergo surgery today in a New York hospital.
