This is the way I figured out how to eat lentils that one time...

    Get some:
-1/2 cup of dry green lentils
-1/4 cup of long grain white rice
-AT LEAST 1/2 a large white onion, chopped. The more onion the better.
-Enough olive oil to saute some stuff with

    Optional:
    Cumin
    Lemon juice
    pepper

    1. Start with a pot with the lentils and some water, bring it to a "vigorous" boil for ten minutes.

    2. When the ten minutes is up, lower the heat to a simmer and add the rice. Simmer for 20 minutes.
Note: You might want to keep a heated kettle or another pot of boiling water on hand just in case the water starts to disappear in your cooking pot as it boils away, jus sayin.

    3. Take your onion and chop it, some say chop it so it stays in ring form but you don't really have to do that. Just chop it so its in long pieces.

    4. Saute the onion for about ten minutes (I usually start when I have around twelve minutes left on the rice & lentils). You might want to use slightly more olive oil than necessary. They should be brown, almost burnt by the time you finish.

    5. When the rice and lentils are done, drain them and put some on an eating apparatus (ie plate). Take half the onions and mix them in with the lentils and rice and use the other half as a topping the resulting mixture.

Optional: You can add cumin, lemon juice and/or pepper if you like, though most of the flavour will come from the onion so its not really necessary. Some people will insist you top it with yogurt, but I find it makes it go cold so forget that noise.

    Any questions?

ATTN TECH PPLS: I'm trying to edit that post to fix a spelling error in the thread title but it won't let me 'go advanced'. :shrugs:
