This was from when I was around 6 years old so the details are kind of fuzzy.
On the many travels to Florida myself and the family would make we would stay with my Grandparents who at the time lived in a Condo in Cocoa Beach, Fl.
One time when we were there, Hurricane Erin was on its way to come fuck some shit up. Everyone at this condo complex were packing their shit and leaving. But I also noticed people were throwing all kinds of patio furniture and stuff like that into the pool. I saw this and thought that looked like a lot of fun, can't remember if I tried it out myself though. But apparently the reason they were doing this was so that things didn't fly around during the hurricane and smash through windows, doors, old people or any of that kind of stuff.
We left and fled to like, Georgia or something, I can't remember. After we came back some windows were broken, trees were merked and I think some furniture was missing from the bottom of the pool, but the most noticeable damage we found was to this fence that separates the pool area and the beach area.
I don?t have any pics but you?d have to imagine something like this
(edit, sorry there was a pic here but it went away. You should have seen a green chainlink fence bent to shit)
Only times a frickin million. And it stayed like that for many many years.
Non-hurricane related memories of Cocoa beach also include
a) Ron Jon?s Surf Shop (FTFW)
b) This one time when we found a hu-motherfuckin-mungus slug/snail/smiley creature on the beach.
c) The big Tiki man thing (that I believe I?ve posted here before) that my grandparents had in their place.
d) Being woken up by my Dad early in the morning to see a space shuttle launch from nearby Cape Canaveral (which was awesome).
e) and of course, the abundance of lizards.
